3 Months Old...

Allie Jane is 3 months old. Time really does go by faster with each baby. She already looks so big to me. She doesn't make her little squeaky noises all the time like she did when she was a newborn. In fact, I don't think she qualifies as a newborn anymore. That makes me so sad! Pretty soon she can move into her 3-6 month clothes and I will weep silently as I put away all the clothes she has grown out of. I will probably never see one of my own children in those clothes again. I do, however, hope to see some nieces or nephews start to receive some of our hand-me-downs. That would be very fun for us. We will spoil them rotten and buy them lots of big noisy toys, just like our siblings have done for our children!

Anyway, back to Allie....She is on her own special little schedule these days. She is pretty tough to get down to bed for the night and often isn't fully asleep until after 11pm. During the night I will feed her a couple times and she goes right back to sleep. Then, if our schedule allows, she will sleep in until 10 or 11 am! Then, she just sort of takes cat naps througout the day (often less than 1 hour) and we do it all again the next night working for a couple of hours to get her to bed. I have never had a child with a schedule like this, and I don't quite know what to do with her. So far we have just sort of been rolling with it and trying to make the best of it. Now that she is such a big girl at three months old, however, we may see if we can impose somewhat of a more normal schedule on this little one.

Other than her strange sleeping habits, she is a wonderfully happy and smiley baby. She gets so excited and starts kicking and smiling whenever Kaden or Maddie comes to talk to her. She also gets very excited about what we call "naked baby kicking hour" around 8 or 9pm. We just strip her down to a diaper and let her go. She kicks like crazy and is so happy for about an hour until we wrap her up in her little baby straight jacket for the night (otherwise known as the miracle blanket). She is also now starting to have "conversations" with us. She loves to have someone talk to her and then make noises in response as if she is involved in a very serious conversation.

These days of baby noises and chubby little legs are bittersweet. They can be exhausting and frustrating, but they are also so sweet and in the big picture they go by way too quickly. So, for today, I will try to slow down, kiss those chubby little legs, enjoy the little noises and appreciate Allie as she sits her next to me having her naked kicking hour.
